Situated between the City of Red Deer and Innisfail, the town of Penhold is as an ideal location for families. A vibrant community with a country atmosphere, Penhold is one of central Alberta’s thriving, family-oriented small towns. With a population of 2,500 residents living in 900 homes, Penhold is easily accessible via Highway 2A.
Due to its geographical location, Penhold is able to maintain its historic small town charm while staying within a comfortable commuting distance to Red Deer's larger, city-style amenities. Local shops and services found in Penhold include a Drop-In Centre and General Store. With Red Deer a short 20 minute drive, residents also have access to the city's big-box businesses and professional services.
The town is home to two schools within the Chinook’s Edge school division. Penhold School provides education to students in grades 3 through 9, and Jessie Duncan Elementary School welcomes students from kindergarten through grade 2. In response to the growing population, the town of Penhold will open a new school in 2014 for students in grades 7 through 12. In addition to their two grade schools, the town has a library open five days a week. The Penhold Library also regularly hosts an Adult Book Club, technology help sessions, and kids playgroups.
Staying true to its family-friendly traditions, Penhold offers residents various parks and recreational activities. Some parks include the Splash Park, Tranquility Park, Windsor Park, and the Penhold Athletic Park. The diverse Penhold Multiplex contains an NHL-sized ice rink, multiple meeting rooms, a lounge, the library, as well as a dance studio operated by the Penhold School of Dance. The town is situated in close proximity to the Red Deer River, Sylvan Lake, and Pine Lake: all popular recreation and holiday destinations.
